Placeholder...

Well... not really a full-sized entry to be sure... It's more like I am posting something to acknowledge that I've not posted much in the past week. Much of that has been in relation to John's funeral, and everything leading up to that. Yes, it's been busy, but it's also been oddly affirming that I'm where I'm called to be at the moment...

Yours in pensive theological reflection...

Facebook?

It's been all over the news in recent days, although mostly in association with online bullying in high schools. Chances are you've probably heard of Facebook by now, even if you haven't a clue of what it's about. I joined up because my companion church blogger Ande had set up a Facebook group for the youth at Clarkson Road. I was curious to see how it worked, he invited me, and thought that this might be yet another way to make use of the 'net for my work here at Clarkson Road.

Facebook is basically an online networking software that allows people to connect into their already existing social networks of work, school, or common interest. One of the more fascinating things has been that it also allows us older types to actually reconnect with people we once went to school with. Once I put in all the information that I was willing to share (you do have that choice), I found myself in contact with some people I've not seen since my early university days if not earlier.

There's something invigorating about connecting with one's youth. It's not really a nostalgic kinda thing, or a mid-life crisis moment, but more an understanding that life moves on for everyone... and everyone has a story to tell... but it also gives us the chance to do some listening too. Aside from the bad press, there are some genuine benefits to this kind of networking.

Oh... one more thing... Happy Birthday Dad! :)
